On May 24th, 2018 at St. Paul Central High School's Senior Honors Night, the Devin Smith Scholarship Foundation awarded two scholarships to the 2018 Devin Smith Scholars; Sun Tun and Pasuaha Yang!
As has been the case for each of the past 7 years, the Devin Smith Scholarship Foundation once again went into Central in 2018 to encourage Central High School seniors to apply for our four-year, $10,000 scholarship. And as has been the case each of these years, we were once again blown away by the tremendous talent, vision, and creativity that flowed from each application we received. Ultimately, there can only be two scholarship recipients, and we are incredibly excited to announce Pasuaha Yang and Sun Tun as our 2018 Devin Smith Scholars!
Pasuaha embodies DSSF’s mission of supporting students who show a creative vision for their lives. In her application, Pasuaha talked about her personal journey to self-confidence, and how it helped her realize her desire to become a makeup artist. In following her passion, Pasuaha has already started doing freelance makeup work for proms, photo shoots, and weddings. She enters college with a desire to obtain a business degree, an education she plans to use to pursue her dream of creating her own makeup brand! We are thrilled to be able to support her goals!
Sun Tun told us that he started drawing to help relieve stress. His drawing does not just result in stress-relief, however, as we were to find out in his application, where he showed his combined passion for drawing and education by submitting his 100-plus-page, hand-drawn, hand-written book about dinosaurs! Here, it was not only dinosaur drawings and facts that filled each page, but also Sun’s incredible talent and creativity. His drive can be further seen in the fact that he’s already working on a second book, which according to him will have twice as many drawings and facts! We are sure that his combination of passion, creativity, and hard work will serve him well as he attends Macalester next year to study education.
We are truly lucky to be a part of Pasuaha and Sun’s journey, and we want to thank everyone who makes this scholarship process possible! A huge thank you to all of the staff at Saint Paul Central who provide us with so much support, our amazing all-volunteer scholarship committee that reads through the applications, and our tremendously generous donors who give us the ability to assist all of our Devin Smith Scholars!
We've said this many times before, but it's just so fantastically consistent and true; we will never have been able to do any of what we are doing today without all of you. Thank you to everyone who supported our team along the way and helped make the first #teamDSSF running of the Twin Cities Marathon and 10 Mile a success!
We are FIVE WEEKS away from the Marathon and 10-Mile race day, and already we've made significant progress towards our goal of $7,500 -- we've raised $1,250!
For all new friends who've never heard of us, or those who need a little refresher, the Devin Smith Scholarship Foundation awards college scholarships to students from St. Paul Central High School because it is a place that embraces diversity, fosters academic excellence, and ultimately cultivates creativity.
The Devin Smith Scholarship Foundation is proud to announce our charitable partnership with the Twin Cities Marathon for this upcoming Marathon and 10 Mile race! We've assembled a team of 14 Marathon and 16 Ten Mile runners who will be training with each other with the ultimate goal of spreading the reach of the foundation and meeting our fundraising goal of $7500 by race day.
